Ocean Bottle
Ocean Bottle was launched in 2019 by co-founders Will Pearson and Nick Doman to combat single-use plastic. They designed it in Norway, created a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo, and over their first year have funded the collection of 655,990 kgs of plastic.
Social impact and environmental responsibility are weaved into the foundation of this company. To start, their reusable bottle is engineered to last a lifetime as an alternative to plastic bottles. It is made from sustainable sourced materials that are fully recyclable, including recycled ocean plastic. Additionally, their bottle includes an NFC smart chip, with the goal of collaborating with various retailers on plastic collection and have bottle owners be able to track their contributions.
With each purchase of an Ocean Bottle, 1,000 plastic waste bottles are removed from impoverished coastal areas throughout the world. Ocean Bottle invests in and believes people-powered waste management is effective in the prevention of plastic entering our beloved ocean and in providing opportunities for communities. They have partnered with Plastic Bank, a company enabling the exchange of plastic waste for value, to ensure collectors are compensated.
As of 2020, they have been featured in Forbes 30 under 30, received a red dot and green product award, and received a London business environment impact award. By 2025, their goal is to collect the equivalent of 7 billion plastic bottles and prevent it from going into our ocean.
